Apostles Camping Park and Cabins

Post Office Rd, Princetown VIC 3269

Welcome to Apostles Camping Park & Budget Accommodation, situated on the Gellibrand River.

The small township of Princetown offers many natural features worth exploring, a fascinating history and some attractive accommodation options.

It was way back in 1837 - well before most of the famous shipwrecks which dot the treacherous coast - that Joseph Tice Gellibrand staggered into an Aboriginal camp at the mouth of the river.

The famous Twelve Apostles rock formations are just six kilometres to the west of Princetown. Adjacent to the township itself, the river estuary and wetlands, particularly the reed beds on the western branch of the estuary, are significant for their rich bird and plant life.

Princetown is bounded on two sides by national parks, with the Port Campbell National Park extending north-westerly and the Otway National Park to the south-east.

At the mid point of the Great Ocean Road in coastal Victoria, Australia, rising up from the Southern Ocean, lies Moonlight Head. It is here that we find Moonlight Head Lodge, a magical combination of privacy, tranquillity and luxury in total harmony with nature. Set against a backdrop of the ocean and the many greens that make up the Australian bush, the luxury lodges of some 260m2, at Moonlight Head have been designed by the acclaimed Australian Architect Glenn Murcutt. Approaching Moonlight Head Private Lodge through the bucolic, cow-lined fields of surrounding farmland doesn't prepare you for two things. Firstly, the views that open up of the majestic, surf-fringed beaches of the Great Ocean Road ahead of you, and the towering, bush-clad cliffs which line them. And secondly, the elongated, almost living brick structures which sit, supine, on the more manicured fields of the Lodge proper. Three separate structures cluster together, but each faces out to gaze at a different aspect of bush, cliff and ocean. The ambience filling each room is created from modern pieces of furniture, antique Persian rugs thrown over blue stone floors. Understated European chic is the key to the décor. With furniture from B&B Italia, Cassina, Poltrona Frau all complemented with lighting from Artemide. This is all set against perfect white walls that spread the abundance of sunshine and moonlight throughout the lodge. From Moonlight there are 100 things to do. Active days include, hiking the Great Ocean Walk, fishing, playing a round of golf, horse back riding or canoeing with the platypus are some of the experiences offered. Peace and tranquillity are rare commodities, at Moonlight Head they are in abundant supply. A sanctuary for man and kangaroo, without a jet trail in the sky, the perfect refuge in which to soothe the soul and refresh the body.

For most people, morning means alarm clocks and haste but not at Moonlight Retreat. Here, the morning starts once the scent of freshly baked bread finds its way to you in the soft expanse of your king size bed. Sometime later, your personal bathrobe and slippers allow you to enjoy your second cuppa on the veranda, discovering just how different the Apostles look in the morning light, compared with the sunset views you enjoyed last night. Inspired by your complimentary breakfast, the whir of wild ducks taking to the air or perhaps even the puzzled look on your dog's face having met an Alpaca for the first time your mind turns to planning the rest of your first day. Being at the mid-point of the world famous Great Ocean Road, your options are almost limitless with several National Parks, Apollo Bay's restaurants, enjoy a close encounter with whales, heights of the Otway Fly, Cape Otway Lighthouse, wild Shipwreck Coast, fascinating fishing village of Port Campbell and that barely scratches the surface. If the truth be told you may get no further than your private spa pool, or a few hours curled up with a book and a complimentary drink beside your roaring log fire but at Moonlight Retreat, that's your choice to make. No-one intrudes on your privacy, unless you invite them to. And the good news is even if you don't make it past the veranda, there's always tomorrow.
